Announcement: Robert Swinger, DVM, DACVO, Named President of the Florida Veterinary Medical Association (5/14/2026)
Robert Swinger, DVM, DACVO, has been named President of the Florida Veterinary Medical Association (FVMA), a statewide organization dedicated to advancing the veterinary profession, supporting veterinary teams, and promoting animal health and welfare throughout Florida.
Dr. Swinger is a board-certified veterinary ophthalmologist and has founded over 10 specialty clinics across central and south Florida. Over the course of his career, Dr. Swinger has focused on providing advanced ophthalmic care for companion and marine animals, supporting veterinary education, and mentoring the next generation of veterinarians and veterinary specialists.
A graduate of the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Swinger completed his veterinary degree in 2003 followed by two internships and an ophthalmology residency in Florida. He became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ACVO) in 2010 and has since remained actively involved in clinical practice, specialty medicine, organized veterinary medicine, and professional leadership.
As FVMA President, Dr. Swinger will help lead the association’s efforts to support veterinarians across the state through advocacy, continuing education, member engagement, and initiatives that strengthen the veterinary profession. In this role, he will work alongside the FVMA Board of Governors, staff, and veterinary leaders throughout Florida to address key issues affecting veterinary professionals, animal owners, and the broader animal health community.
Dr. Swinger’s goals as president include promoting collaboration among veterinarians across all areas of practice, supporting the well-being and professional development of veterinary teams, encouraging mentorship and leadership opportunities, and helping ensure that the FVMA continues to be a strong voice for the veterinary profession in Florida.
