| PROSTHETICS |
| There are such things as
intraocular prosthetic implants that are available for some animals but
they require the presence of the animal's original globe. There is such a
thing as a prosthetic implant (porcelain or other material) plate that is
similar to a fake eye in a human. This essentially is a plate that fits
under the eyelid, must be removed and cleaned, and has a picture painted
on it that matches the other, normal eye. The title of such a person
is an "ocularist".
Ask your local veterinary ophthalmologist for information or contact ophthalmology departments at the veterinary schools in your area. Alternatively you may want to contact residents at The Ohio State University, North Carolina State University, Cornell University and the University of Wisconsin. |
