The
Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at The Ohio State University
College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a 1-year full-time
position as clinical instructor in Comparative Ophthalmology. This is a
clinical emphasis position and candidates must have a demonstrated
commitment to excellence in patient management, client service, and
clinical teaching. Applicants must have a DVM or equivalent degree.
Specialty board certification (ACVO/ECVO) is preferred, but individuals
who have completed residency training will also be considered. A potential exists that
this position could evolve into a permanent tenure- or clinical-track
faculty position. The
appointee will join the Comparative Ophthalmology Service, located within
the comprehensive veterinary teaching hospital and referral center, with
state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, including a new surgical
microscope, phacoemulsification unit, high definition image capture and
display systems and endolaser. The Comparative Ophthalmology Service is
currently comprised of 2 faculty members, 2 residents and 2 dedicated
technicians. The position is devoted primarily to patient care and
clinical training of students, interns, and residents with full-time
responsibilities for participating in and leading the service for at least
40 weeks. The appointee is expected to foster a strong caseload through
the provision of comprehensive and excellent patient care, the delivery of
efficient and effective service to clients, and exceptional referral and
consultation service to private practitioners. Clinical responsibilities
may include diagnosis and medical and surgical treatment of ophthalmic
conditions in all species of animals. Other teaching assignments will
include junior operative practice laboratories and limited didactic
teaching of core and elective student courses. Participation is expected
in general Comparative Ophthalmology Service activities, such as meetings,
resident seminars, and rounds. The
Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences supports a faculty of over 50
clinical specialists, educators, and investigators along with extensive
training programs for professional students, interns, residents, and

Salary will be competitive and commensurate with the candidate's
qualifications and experience. The Comparative Ophthalmology Service will
provide funding for registration, economy-fare travel, and hotel for
attendance at one national meeting, according to university travel
policies. The position is available until
